Undefeated

She couldn't add the glorious weight to her neck,

nor could she add the shiny metal to her rack.

But she did something that blew everyone's mind,

today they say she is one of a kind.

She out came the negativity that followed her all the time,

and yet again proved that following our passion is not a crime.

She was mocked for her flex at every stage,

they said, "You should get married at this age."

According to them gymnastics was useless,

they said that gymnastics would make her a mess.

She was hated for making a move so bold,

but today pride in it's purest form is what she holds.

"Gymnast? Oh...so you play tricks at circus?" they said,

"like unicycling, wire walking and standing on your head."

"I'll prove them wrong," she vowed that day,

and today for her success we all pray.

The medal slipped away from a minute difference,

the tears rolled down her cheeks leaving a feeling of disappointment that she could sense.

There were muffeled thoughts in her mind,

she was thinking about her entire performance in rewind.

"I couldn't master the death vault," she thought.

"All of this is entirely my fault."

But she didn't lose her calm in a moment that was so heated,

other girls might have won the medals but Deepa stood undefeated.
