Unlocked
Unlocked
Hesitating, I gripped it
The rusted door handle
Still wondering whether I should
Be here or not
But as I pushed it open
My eyes sparkled with anticipation
The winds flew through my hair
The skies thundered
I stepped on
The creaking wooden floor
The warmth wrapped around me
Like a blanket in the frost
Oh yes, there it was
Still as enchanting as I had left it
Along with my heart
Resting there, was the treasure,
The treasure gifted to me
By people who broke me and I broke
The people who made me
The people I am made of
I dusted off the years
Within which the box was buried
My fingers brushed across the edges
The scent of the wood, unchanged
Unlocked, it still held on to
Letters, cards and torn novel pages
Paintings, jewels and blurred polariods
Movie tickets and restaurant bills
I drank in the memories
Like old wine they got better
Sitting for hours till midnight
Mending my missing pieces
