Vermilion Eyes

I saw her once, a fleeting glimpse,

Crimson glint, those vermillion eyes.

My love, it sprang up in an instant,

A twinkle in the night sky.

My heart raced, my pulse pounded,

My spirit felt an invisible flame.

My soul soared, my mind abounded,

My thoughts, they were not the same.

I searched in vain for her vermillion eyes,

I searched for her, in high and low,

But I never found her, no matter how hard I tried,

I almost forgot about her in life's ebb and flow.

But when I thought all was lost,

I found her when I faced my own demise.

When I met those eyes again, in the afterlife,

I saw her for who she really was, to my surprise.

For she was dead herself,

The one I had been seeking forever.
