Wait = Love
Wait = Love

I cannot remember my grandparents ever being in love.
It is quoted-
"look into my eyes, they will tell you how much I love you"
I cannot remember the last time dada looked into dadi's eyes.
Anyway, I asked amma today.
"How would you define love?"
"love? Well, for me, love is to wait",
Replied she.
"Nonsense", I uttered and left.

This day, my subconscious mind kept noticing my grandparents and It was just..
Dadi waiting for the doorbell to ring.
Dada waiting for dadi to complete her morning prayer.
Dadi waiting for dada to finish his meal.
Dada waiting for dadi to take her sight off knitting sticks.
And both waiting for the tea kettle to whistle at 4:58 pm so they can have tea around five.

The first day without dadi and dada's eyes contacted mine,
I wonder why there breathe "wait".
At 4:58 pm dada heard the tea kettle whistling,
He came to the kitchen first time in his life.
Crossing the 'Turmeric Rekha' he drew for men of our house.
Searching for the face he adored, in my face.

Today,
I asked dada,
"How would you define wait?",
"wait? Well, for me, waiting is love.
Anyone can look into your eyes and say beautiful things,
But not everyone can wait and prove it's true", replied he.
And now I self-correct,
I cannot remember my grandparents never* being in love.
I quote-
"look into my eyes, they will tell you how much I waited".
