WERE YOU HERE LAST NIGHT ?
WERE YOU HERE LAST NIGHT ?
Veiled in innocence drenched in adversity
She stepped into this world with novelty
Driven under harsh conditions to bear
Lived a life with none to love and care
A childhood of downright abandon
Left to fend in a world mundane
Parents support all along missing
World so cruel “well-wishers” hissing
Owning only morsels of her dream
Which she held tight lest it seem
Slipping out of the life she had
Providence made living rather dim
A broken home and daily squabble
Comfort eluding escalating trouble
All hell broke loose endurance gone
Vulnerable as she is seemingly forlorn
Left behind a life of myriad despair
Bleak baffling days stand ahead of her
The Black Hole rapidly siphoned her in
Control destiny that to her was mean
The heart is unconquerable, the body gives in
An eventual triumph, after awful achin’
It’s a different world here she thus realize
A glance at the good life will not be wise
Darkness creeps in, their world lights up
Civilized men unmask to gobble them up
Submit themselves still unwilling though
Woman’s supreme asset they just let go
Heart bruised soul battered body does the job
Speechless as she is by the flocking mob
Shame and disgrace all grounded ashore
Only mission to earn a few rupees more
A family to support no time to savour
Ailing parents’ responsibility galore
Day in day out aimlessly toiling hard
Optimist someday to escape this yard
With a dream in her eyes, a hopeful soul
Sets out the rough road to meet her goal
Those men she generously laid her trust
Fake their real character in utter disgust
By day they claim to be rather too dear
They are the same who devour her there
Feeble shriek beneath the frail swathe
None lends an ear to their irate wrath
Rehabilitation efforts are just a facade
Nothing is real but a hollow charade
We as denizen what have we done
Ignore them with a shrug and go
Pity sympathy they seek certainly not
A little reverence a modest thought
She is just same as like you and me
A daughter and sister to some maybe
Busy as we are with our daily chores
Will never empathize the life of a whore.
