A Hug

I was hugging him as tight as I could but this time things seemed to be different. He was closest to me but felt too far away and all the moments of our 18 years of friendship dropped like raindrops in front of my eyes

A few hours ago only he came jumping to my house as our results were announced and this bright kid had cracked the entrance into two pieces. Likely he seemed to be the happiest person in the world as he made his dream come true and his parents proud. Though I couldn't make it but still I was the second happiest person in the world and the first thing he did was hugging me tight, as tight as my lungs couldn't grasp a breath.

After that he started describing all his plans the way he will enter the class room, the type of clothes he will wear, the shoes he will buy, the bike which his father has just gone to buy him and how will he join NASA one day. Everything around seemed radiant his house was filled with whole different light. It seemed like a festival being celebrated there, his mom was making his favourite chicken shawarma, his brother gifted him his jordan's.

Seeing all this I also thought him giving him that watch which he used to rant the whole day as soon as he crossed the Titan watch shop. As soon as I reached his house everything seemed to be changed though it was not night everything seemed to be dark

A sea of faces could be seen at his place and the faces looked plain, less or no expressions could be seen. I went in saw him lying down and everyone around sobing, crying, lamenting. Some of them whispering how he was bashed by a car while crossing the road. His mom was silent just staring at him, his brother hiding in his room, his father staring at his new bike with tearful eyes and what I was doing?

I was waiting for him to hug me back tight.
