ALMOST PROPOSED

IT ONCE HAPPENED

I was studying in XI Standard and I was at a sports training camp held in some other school. Both boys and girls team stayed in the school while regular classes were going on for the rest of the students. The girls' team stayed on the third floor of the school and boys on the ground floor.

3^rd FLOOR

One day I was getting ready for my breakfast with a plate in my hand and was just about to get out of our room, I saw our escort teacher entering the room with a rose in her hand. As she entered, she gave that rose to me and greeted me with a happy day ahead. She said the school is celebrating Grandparents' day and we just continued talking while rest of my teammates were still getting ready. Once all the girls were ready we went down for our breakfast.

GROUND FLOOR

In the dining room, few girls were asking me about the rose and I was telling them about it. And now for breakfast, we were given a boiled egg. This was our routine, but the day was Friday when many of us (girls) don't eat nonvegetarian food (some kind of religious belief). So most of the girls gave their share of eggs to Lakshman (our boys' team goalkeeper). His plate was filled with eggs. I also wanted to give away my share. But I waited for another boy who too was a foodie. So I said, "Let Mani come I'll give it to him". But he didn't turn up for breakfast so I gave it to Lakshman and came back to our room.

THE MOMENT

After some time, a IX standard boy Vicky from the boys' team came to our room and called me down. I just followed him and I saw Mani standing in the staircase. Vicky said, "Akka (sister) propose him! You said you are going to propose him . Go on."

I knew Mani for many years and so did he, But I never had such thoughts for him and neither did I ever say such a thing to anyone. I was terribly shocked and embarrassed and was looking at Mani with tears just ready to escape my eyes. Mani was scared and he was apologizing for Vicky's insanity and was confirming that he had no such intentions. I said nothing and ran back to our room.

WHY VICKY?

I went to a table and rested my head over it. A few drops of tears fell off my eyes. The past five minutes' memory was troubling me a lot and many questions were there in my brain. WHY VICKY? WHY DID YOU DO THIS? And it didn't look like he was lying! So what did I do that gave him such thought?

RECAP

Then I wiped my tears and started rewinding everything that happened from the morning. Receiving rose from ma'am till returning back to our room. I rewinded the situations again and again and suddenly I smiled. I remember I said, "Let Mani come I'll give it ( AN EGG) to him". While saying this Vicky must have been somewhere there and might have seen me with a plate in one hand and a ROSE in the other!!

Now those 10 minutes makes me only to smile...
