An Overnight Adventure

It was 11 o'clock at night. Shirin's parents had gone to watch a film. Shirin and her brother had gone to sleep when the doorbell began to ring harshly. Shirin got up with a start. She thought her parents were home, but then got reminded that they had checked the time and no doubt they were at the right time. She thought again, but she was disturbed by the doorbell, now ringing twice as loud as the last time. She started out for the door, As she didn't want her brother to wake up and make it difficult for her to make him sleep again. She was about to twist the doorknob when suddenly she thought, "what if it's a thief or kidnapper who will cover my face as soon as I opened the door, then he'll kidnap Chintu and steal mom's jewelry?"

 She was fond of horror movies and thriller stories. Moreover, her maid Kantha would tell her fake horror stories which she actually believed. She immediately went and woke her brother, took him downstairs to the kitchen and both hid under the table. " Why are we hiding?" asked Chintu. "shush! Mr. XYZ might hear us" "who is Mr.XYZ?" "the thief or kidnapper outside. I'm sure is here to rob our house." " How are you sure about it?" "I have many stories and movies with the same beginning and well movies and stories are written with an idea which must have happened sometime in the past, but we don't know when. This is just the beginning bro there might be a situation where I will have to show that man my karate skills." Poor 5-year-old Chintu believed his sister. "Now what do we do?" "wait and watch little brother, if Mr. XYZ has the guts to directly ring the bell to knock us off he'll not give up soon." After about 10 minutes of silence a voice called out "Shirin, Chintu" called out a familiar voice "mommy's home!" exclaimed Chintu and stood up to open the door when Shirin gripped him and sat him down again. " Don't go! it's Mr. XYZ's plan to get us by the dubbing mom's voice. This must be a big thief, he knows our names as well. Also, mom and dad can't be home, the movie won't be finished soon." It was 12:00 a.m. After about 5 minutes of pin-drop silence, Chintu got tired and suggested to Shirin that we go out with a bat and have a look. Firstly Shirin refused but then she agreed, obviously to show off with her karate skills. Both of them got ready, one with a bat and the other one with a pan, ready to smash that thief. As soon as they opened the door both swung their weapons, but it hit the air. They looked around when suddenly they heard the kitchen window breaking. They rushed there and were dumbstruck. There were their parents with 2 more police officers in front of them.

           

After everyone sat down, Shirin asked " How are you here? You don't know in what grave danger were we in! There was a thief outside who rang the bell 3 times, then called out our names with your voice mum. That thief was really intelligent! He ran away when he saw you all. did you catch him?" All of them started laughing except Chintu. " Oh, Shirin! How childish of you to think that. It was me and your father who rang the doorbell and then called out your names. " "But didn't you go to a movie?" " We did, But we were late because of traffic. We came back and as we were angry we rang the doorbell harshly. I guess we should not have done that." " But why did you keep pausing?" " For the 1st time, we paused because we thought you were asleep and you would come in some time, We didn't want to wake the neighbors. But after 10 minutes we were a bit afraid so we called the police. The police suggested that we break the glass of the kitchen, but not the door. We thought you must have been near the door to protect yourself." Said her mother. Both Shirin and Chintu were shocked and embarrassed. But they later joined their parents in laughing!
