Door Lock Story

Door Lock Story

It's just a lock but has a little story for me.

Once while studying at the University of Delhi, I was staying in hostel-like many other girls from outside Delhi.

I was initially put in the room known as the sick room accompanying four other girls of different subjects from different locations, who were also on hold for allotment to a room in the hostel owing to a vacancy. So, in due course of time, I was allotted a room shared by a senior in physics. I was in political science. Thankfully I moved out of the so-called sick room otherwise like a dormitory. But it was tough sharing a room with someone but I was already experienced from the previous two years since my father retired from service and I moved to a hostel because my parents shifted.Well, not going in detail to the hostel, the room I shared and life I would like to bring here an experience with the lock that I had put in the room. I was alone when my roommate went to her home. It so happened that I had to attend functions held there in one of the auditoriums outside the campus and participated in welcoming the noted painter Mr.Jatin Das who was the chief guest. In the process of participation, I had left my bag in the seat where I was seated, when asked to come up the stage along with two of my friends. Attending the programs and all and when it was time to leave, we left in the bus which carried us back to the hostel. I then realized on reaching the hostel that I had left behind the bag in the seat and reached hence was heading my room without my keys. That night I stayed with my friend in her room. The next morning I called up a friend and he took to effort to come to the hostel and advised me to ask someone to break the lock. Accordingly, I asked the gardener to tell someone and he came with a man to break the lock. The man instead told me "This is such a nice lock, how can I break it"(it is a Chinese lock very well imprinted on the lock itself, Made in China)those were the time when Chinese items were fancy.

I asked the man to break it for I have to enter my room I was full of tension. And he said "let me try a trick and break it from a side so that it can be used as well" and what a trick he had. he did it successfully hitting on one edge of the lock. Thanks to him I still have the lock with me and whenever I see it the story comes to my mind and today I took to write it down.

So, the story of lock doesn't end with this, thereafter I don't know what news passed by. I was asked by one girl, a Korean as far as I remember, in the hostel came knocking my room and asked "Can you open my lock" I was awestruck...what??? she misplaced the keys and I was supposed to break open... haha..learning that it was a Chinese lock too...I told her ok, "let me take my keys" if luck has its way. But neither she nor I were lucky there...((I wasn't the lock opener anyway!!.....Thank God!))

I guess I was already #lockopener if # hashtags were used at that time. On one occasion I had tried opening the lock of one friend using the normal trick of a wire..which I learned while I was a junior student and used to take a steel box with a lock to school and someone helped me to try open the small lock of the box with a wire and it did open. Those were the pressing locks that would get locked when pressed. No doubt this Chinese lock was the same too, but definitely needed a key to open.

And yes, finally I had to tell that "I know "NO" tricks of opening a lock" and I had asked the lock-opener to break through the lock of my room.
