Those were the days when greeting cards had such a great significance in the celebration of the New Year. Come Christmas and one would find the cards available at the shops and stalls for Christmas and within no time the new year cards were available in the market. People would rush to purchase their choice of cards. Beautifully written to the receiver and posted, pretty much calculated that it would reach on time. So, it was indeed a craze sending and receiving cards.

Cards were in different sizes as well. Cards on themes, environment, flowers, sceneries, cards for children with cartoons. That's not all, there would be cards for family from family members or relatives, some would be from each one's friends, which would keep everyone waiting till received.

Not only new year but birthday cards were also available.

While the creative people would create their own handmade or hand painted cards that carries one's love and emotions attached to it.

However, much attention has been focused by the creative people across the globe in creating handmade card, hand painted, hand decorated. Thanks to the internet and social media that encourages people to fulfill their hobbies. I feel myself satisfied when i create a card myself, either paint it, or decorate or do some quilling work on it and gift.

It was always a pleasure to preserve those cards and I still have some greetings cards and birthday cards as well. Old memories cherished!

With the development of technology and digitalization the paper cards have now taken the shape of virtual or e- cards/greetings. Such cards are created with the help of various tools and apps that creates and are sent instantly.

No doubt these cards reaches instantly but the enthusiasm in receiving a card by post no matter it was in some couple of days through post, but it had absolutely a different feeling altogether. Trying to carefully open the envelope and slip out the card. Some senders wrote their address while others didn't. So, the guess work was for the latter. For those who collected stamps, the pasted stamps on envelopes would bring an extra smile on their face.
