Finding A New Home

Finding A New Home

A bit of background: I am an Engineering student, studying in Nadiad. My home is in Ahmedabad, nearly 50kms away. Most of my batchmates are from different cities too, some live in hostel, some live in PG, like me. I have three roommates: Harshpal, Milan, and Rushang.

It was the last exam of second year of our college. I, my two roommates—Harshpal and Milan— and our friends—Hitarth and Ishaan—had decided to stay in Nadiad that day after exam, so that we may find a new place to live in; I and my roommates found the new rules of our PG a little heavy on the pocket, and Hitarth and Ishaan were living in a hostel, for two years, quite remarkable. I had barely spent one year at that place.

Hitarth knew one broker, so he had called and told him the requirement. It was decided that after the exam, Hitarth would call us and tell us where to go.

After the exam, I and Harshpal were back at our pg, waiting for Hitarth's call. I called him, since it was already 4:30pm. He didn't pick up. I and Harshpal decided we would rather go to McDonald's than wait hungry.

We ate our heart out, and after that, we realised we had forgotten Milan, who kept calling me while we were eating (my phone was on silent).

After a while, while we three were sitting in our room, Hitarth called us. And so we went to see the PG. It was in an apartment. And the moment I stood in front of it, I knew it was not the one. My head almost touched the underneath of the building, and the building looked almost haunted too.

"It is designed for drawfs, I tell you", said Harshpal.

But still, we went on to see the PG.

I have always had a general impression of PGs, though it doesn't seem true for our own PG. But the moment we entered it, that impression was strengthened. Dusty floor. Footwear spread everywhere. It was not a PG with students who had shoes, it was a PG with shoes who had students. And it was breathtakingly dark. Ishaan could hardly breath. And pigeons lived in the kitchen. How clean.

Of course, we didn't choose that one. Next, it was the most peculiar house we had seen. It was also an apartment, but a two storeyed apartment (yes!), i.e. every house was two storeyed. Everything was good, until we saw the washroom, and we rushed out as soon as possible.

Harshpal, Milan, and I realised that our own PG was not bad. And so, we decided to stay there. But I feel sorry for Hitarth and Ishaan, since they would now have to look for someone else to share PG with (PG for two people are really hard to find, but for 4-6, quite easy).
