As part of rewriting history the Committee of Histrionitricks conducted a competition. Vascodagama also participated. He wrote:

I crossed the seven seas, faced storms, over came high tides, lost many seamen and finally put my foot on the Indian land.

What I see now, the common people in their daily life, how they overcome the pot holes makes mockery of my struggles I have faced. I am convinced that Indians are the only people that can colonize the moon. They have the magic combo of their vedic knowledge and their daily commute.

The Committee of Histrionitricks was very pleased. They declared him the winner and recommended to the PM to build a statue at the very place he set his foot. The Portugese government decided to contribute to this commemoration and called it a win-vindalo situation for both the countries.

The statue was unveiled by the PM himself with much feni and fanfare.

Hiuen Tsang had also participated in the event. He wrote:

Let Chinese rule India for a decade. This is the only way to get rid of the potholes. Not only for this but to speed up Indian Railways. It is as if the time stands still when you travel in one. You don’t know when you arrive if it was yesterday, tomorrow or the day after. Not only that China can do it in a way that people of India will think they themselves did it.

NCERT quickly dropped the chapter on Hiuen Tsang’s visit to India from the history book.

History or not commoners continue to struggle in their daily life. Be it potholes, traffic jams, endless waiting for the public transport. The people caught up in mythology life is one maya. Some take it in their chin dismissing all this as part of karma. In the meanwhile the great leader continues trumpeting that how his government has made a difference to the life of commoners. His followers in deference don't contest him. They know what happened to the great Hiuen Tsang.
