He leaned against an Oak, gasping for air, as his heartbeat rang in his ears. Fuzzy memories ran through his mind, and a blood-curdling scream broke his trance. He could not afford to take a break, even though his lungs were ablaze, his feet bled through the blisters, and his heart ached in grief. After witnessing the mass slaughter of his village at the hands of the Demon Army, Elijah was fleeing away on the Obitus Express, the only train connecting his remote village to the Hiddleston Empire.

He blamed himself for being the cursed child of the moon, whose destiny was to destroy the Evil forces. For the first time in his life, he was running through the forests his parents banned him from going into. Stray leaves crunched under his feet as the moon cast eerie shadows through the trees. An occasional owl abruptly hooted from the shadows as if mocking Elijah’s cowardice. The army snarled and hissed while chasing after him.

Elijah wished to fulfil his parents’ last wish and live a long life as they asked him to. ‘I cannot be happy though’, he thought as he fought the tears threatening to spill. What was once a prosperous village now lay in ruins. Blood painted the Earth red as the flames blazed into the sky, clouds of smoke billowing with the pungent stench of burning flesh.

Elijah was finally in the clearing, with the station in sight. His eyes brightened with joy as he once again attached to the false hope Destiny cruelly granted him. The moon was a clear pearl in the majestic, starry night sky, which Elijah had seen for the first time. An iridescent halo descended upon him, and he felt a sudden power course through his veins. The Holy Symbols glowed on his body, and Elijah felt indomitable. ‘I am, after all, the Moon’s child’, he thought.

Just as he rejoiced in this new-found power, an excruciating pain ached through his chest, and he pitifully laughed while clenching the poisoned sword that was the means to his end.
