My Smart Watch

I never knew I was being monitored by them through the smartwatch I was wearing, recalling those comical incidents still gives butterflies in my stomach.

It was my 16th birthday and I saw a beautifully wrapped box kept next to me. At my majesty’s pleasure I immediately got up, eager to open it. I was praying that it should be my most awaited present and adding feathers to the cap it was a smartwatch. Finally, my dream came true. The watch became one of my best companions and the most important part of my life.

After a couple of weeks my family decided to go for a vacation to the hill station, but my leave application at school got rejected and unfortunately, I was left all alone at home. Pestered of their decision of abandoning me, I decided not to follow any of the instructions laid down by them on me. The norms stated no party, no school bunk, no junk food and I was only permitted to eat the food in the refrigerator, obviously which was supposed to be microwaved.

The adrenaline rush made me break the first rule, I bunked the school just to accomplish my anger. No sooner had I decided to bunk the school I found my phone ringing. Not being surprised it was my mother whom I expected. I picked up the call, she flared up at me, “Bunked the school! Why did you do so? What a careless child!” I felt dumb about myself to foolishly receive her call during the school hours and therefore I was caught.

Later in the evening I decided to have a pizza party with my friends to freshen up my mood. As soon as I ate the first bite, a message from my mom’s number popped up asking, “How is the flavor of the latest pepperoni and cheese pizza? I wish to order the same flavour but thought of your taste bud’s approval.” Haste makes mistakes as I paid the bill using my father’s debit card and I realized that I am caught because of this carelessness. Misfortune is my best companion for the day said an inner voice.

At night, while watching soccer on my smart television, I could feel the intense soccer match of rats being played in my stomach as well. Unwillingly, I left the match as an alarm from my stomach which screamed out, “Come on Bunty! Don’t be so lazy, let’s have so la cena (dinner)” I opened the refrigerator and I saw the same boring things- dal, rice, curry and some pickles. I felt like some Italian beast has conquered my body for the day. All I wanted to eat was pasta, pizza and pesto. Making a good use of my smart phone, I quickly scrolled YouTube and took out the recipe of my all-time favourite pasta. I began with boiling pasta in salty water, as I proceeded to add oil in the pasta, the pot tripped and the hot water splashed on my hand, which burnt my skin. I was wailing out in pain and could not hear my phone ringing in the backgroud. I tried to console myself and rushed to search for an anti-burn ointment in my mother’s first aid kit. But all my search went in vain as it was nowhere to be found.

Again, my phone rang, and it was my mother. “Did the recipe include burning of hand also? The anti-burnt ointment is kept in my drawer, go and apply it quickly.” My mother spoke furiously also I could hear her voice cracking which gave me a hint of her being teary eyed. No sooner her anger vanished and I felt astonished of the fact that how is she aware of my every move. My thoughts searched for the answer until I saw a small detector in my smart watch looking back at me with fishy eyes, following each and every movement of mine. I looked back at it with a grim, Ah! My birthday present.

Now everything was as clear as crystal for me. I was able to understand that this gifted smartwatch was the real culprit which updated my whereabouts to my parents. I laughed that I was easily fooled by my parents and was being detected by them secretly. I realized in the current era technology is advanced and a boon for mankind, if used in the right way.
