I paced on, as my wits took me forward and the wind refreshed my body; I felt elated, and the feeling was overwhelming. I was at a steady pace; as the world passed by and newer and more intricate scenes greeted my way. The road felt like a treadmill, and my legs felt pre-programmed. I had never experienced such depths of the tranquil nature. The grass, looked greener ahead and the road looked more welcoming ahead; which kept my legs going. I couldn't believe myself that I was running with such an ease; in a half marathon when I had my target time to bother about. Suddenly, some uneasy sensation overcomed that joy, and the ostentatious comments about the nature. The pain swallowed the joy, and that last 5Km of the marathon were the ultimate challenge. The toughest challenge that is, between you and your own bossy and lazy old hag of your brain.I felt the pain burning in, through my body. It strained every part of my body.

My calves, craved for mercy and My eyes, suddenly felt heavy. For a moment, l suddenly seemed to feel the weight of the air pressure. I started to loose my speed; and my head felt like tons of kilograms. The feeling of giving it up, was getting attention in my mind. The thought of staying determined, and completing the race was suddenly fading from my mind. I was about to give up; and then some voice said in my mind,'What do you want to do, Arnav? What is your goal? What will be the embarrassment and guilt you will face if you give up? Just think!’ I forced myself to think. Then, I decided, that I was not one of those who easily gives up. I decided to fight on. ‘C'mon dude its time to play SAVAGE.’ I felt a strong surge of energy in me. I had never been, so fiercely determined before. This time, my mind and my body worked quite cooperatively. I raced forward at lightning speed. I found myself amongst the top five runners. I was bewildered, channelled that same energy through my legs and the responded positively. I saw the finish line in the clearing. That joy, again decided to visit my body. I found myself not only finishing the hell of a marathon, but also receiving the gold medal. This was the most joyful day, of my life. On that podium, while collecting the medal, I realized that a person’s mind, could sometimes turn really nasty and invite troubles or even failure.
