The Landslide

That day I was going to pick up the mail from the post office on the hilltop. I cycled uphill and felt tired. I sat down and opened my snack box. Mom had packed a delightful pasta for me. I was about to pull my fork out of my bag when a few drops of water fell on my nose. Ignoring it, I continued rummaging. Then it began raining. Oh no! I was about to cycle to the awning of the paan (betel leaf) shop when it began raining very heavily. Rocks rolled downhill. I quickly packed up my belongings and wore my bag. I began speedily cycling downhill and was about to trip when I was stopped. "Why you are so tense? Big rain not coming no!" said the villager who stopped me. Gasping, I pointed to the rolling rocks. "Landslide!!!!!" I cautioned. He broke into peals of laughter and said, "That is small rocks. Hill piece not falling no! Then why you are fast fast cycling?" What a word mix-up!

Before I could say another word, he was hit by a rock. He fainted. I dragged him onto my bicycle and began pedaling even faster. I was all fine, so I slowed down a little. But then I saw a broken road. Mr. Word Jumble just regained consciousness, and when he saw the broken road, he swooned. How would I ever get home? Planning to spend the night in my aunt's house in the other town, I steered the other way around. Luckily, an Amazon truck passed by, with the driver mentioning the name of my town. I quickly opened the door of the storage portion of the truck and brought the unconscious Mr. Word Jumble and my bicycle along with my bag into it.

Then, shutting the door, I snuggled up in a corner. I don't know, but somehow the truck reached my street. And once the driver left with the package, I took my chance to escape. I took my bike and Mr. Word Jumble home. When he regained consciousness, he asked Dad to drop him at his sister's house, which was nearby. Ever since then, I think twice before I go on my bike...OOOHHHH...It gives me goosebumps!!!!
