What does travelling teach us?

It is a common understanding that travelling can teach us about our personality. We live with ourselves for almost all our lives. We build specific interests and dislikes based on our limited exposure. How does travelling help us to develop a better relationship with our being? I can comprehend the fact that it can help bonding between two or more people. When we are in a foreign country, we begin to rely on our nearest companions for support and solace. But how does it happen with ourselves? We make significant assumptions about our characteristics in a comfortable environment. We pick and choose our weapon to handle every day. However, when we travel, all the circumstances are changed. We are faced with newer challenges. We are pushed out of our comfort zone.
