During my childhood days, my grandmother used to recite many stories. This is one of them. The topic of the story is Saint's word. Once upon a time in a forest, there lived a huge snake named Nagesh. He was huge as well as powerful. He was very proud of himself. He used to visit the nearby village daily and frighten people. Whenever someone saw Naagesh they used to shiver in fright. Many times due to him people used to fall unconscious. When he saw people falling he used to make his sound and said that's great. This shows how powerful I am and started laughing out of pride. One day stressed villagers went to a wise Saint and said, "now only you can save us from the deadly snake. His terror is rising day by day. Yesterday he attacked our kids." Then the Saint told them that he will visit the village tomorrow and will free them. The next day, the Saint reached the village with an empty basket. In a while, Naagesh arrived in the village. Seeing Nagesh, everyone started running astray. But the Saint was unaffected by Nagesh and stood still. Nagesh saw the Saint and crawled towards him and started speaking," hiss, this person is not frightened by me." As Nagesh approached the Saint, the Saint grabbed the snake inside the empty basket. Nagesh was screaming from inside. He pleaded," please release me." I wouldn't trouble anyone again." The Saint felt pity for him and he opened the basket and said, "this time I m releasing you but remember, you will never harm anyone nor even frighten them." The snake then never return to the village. One day, the Saint was walking through the forest. There he saw Naagesh lying in an injured condition. The Saint walked towards him and asked what happened to him. "Who did this to you?" This is because of you as you took a promise that I would never attack or frighten any human. Then the Saint said, "yes so!" This condition is made by those humans who come here to hunt animals. Then the Saint said that he could have defended himself. "This could have been done if I wouldn't have promised you," said Nagesh. Then the Saint realizes his mistake and after some time, Naagesh does before him.

Moral- We should defend ourselves for our safety.
