I promise

I promise

2 mins
222

I stared up at the night sky,

Promised I would get you the moon.

You blushed, didn’t speak, too shy,

And all was forgotten by noon.

All but the promise I made,

You remembered but never said.

Until all began to fade,

You quoted, “This is where destiny led.”

The silence staled, encompassing my gloom.

“Get me the moon” was your last request,

Echoing in the perfect bloom.

And now, I go on moon’s quest.

I searched near and far, in the sea,

Up and down every hill I went.

The sudden breeze always shook me,

Carrying along your scent.

Your words echo in my mind,

Throwing me in memory’s abyss.

Only a single memory do I find,

Rest all is in a mist.

I continue searching, I never pause,

Or I fear I’ll drown in remorse.

The great pain it’ll cause,

Won’t let me find solace in my course.

On a lone night, I dreamt of my promise,

A vision of the staircase atop a hill.

The beauty around left me astonished,

And I saw your reflection in the water so still.

I finally found the place I dreamt of,

The picturesque hill and the staircase.

“This is where we should be love,”

I whispered in the waters, to your beautiful face.

I leapt up the stairs, two at a time,

I want to fly, I want to reach soon.

The faster I go, the harder it’s to climb,

But all I want is the moon.

I knew time was less or so I believe,

My end was nearing, I knew as I run.

Just a few steps and what I want, I’ll achieve,

But alas, my last breath only caught the setting sun.
