Once Upon a Time

Once upon a time

You and me…e were together

We were inseparable

We shared a bond

That other envied

We were blessed

With lots of smiles and laughter

We shared many unspoken secrets

Such was our bond

That we looked at each other

And knew the thoughts floating

We felt each other like

Air feels our skin

You and I were together

It was once upon a time

It is decades now

We have traveled separate paths

You and I are still together

Time has taken a toll

The bond is weaker now

With time, the “me” has fizzled

There is a new fresh breeze now

That sits in “me’s” place

We still look at each other

But do not share the secrets

We still feel each other

But there is a vacuum

Such was our bond

That is no longer there

We tread different paths now

Constant is the change

That will remain with us

Time will unfold many more secrets

That do not share now

There will be joys and tears

That we may not share

There will be success and failures

That will excite and hurt

Life will tread its path
