I wonder why life plays these pranks on my sleep cycle?

You know, I’d always had trouble falling asleep.

So much so, I’d almost made peace with the break of dawn.

Got me some dark curtains, opaque enough to block the rays.

Oh god knows, falling asleep had been such a task for me!

I had tried it all.

From drinking a glass of warm milk to playing soothing sleep music videos on YouTube.

All in vain!

Then it struck me, maybe I just wasn’t exhausted enough.

So after this one sleepless night, I decided to stay up the next day to “reverse” my sleep cycle.

And there I lay in bed restless at 3 am, yet again.

Exasperated, I gave up.

I decided I would sleep when my brain shut down for the day.

In my case, the night.

But then one rainy evening, I met you.

Your eyes sang lullabies and you let me be the big spoon when I liked.

I could finally sleep better.

Almost like a baby!

I didn’t need the soothing sleep music videos anymore.

Curtains could be any color.

And just when I’d begun to sleep well, you said it was time for you to leave.

I didn’t stop you, but now that I think of it,

I should have asked you what exactly you did that put me to sleep.

You left me guessing!

Maybe it was the way you loved me like no one ever had.

Or was I just being delusional?

The funny thing is, just how falling asleep had become easier with you around.

Waking up got tougher after you were gone.

I wonder why life plays these pranks with my sleep cycle!
