The Gulmohar tree

The Gulmohar tree

The Gulmohar tree has come to life,

It’s gone scarlet with specks of green and white,

The flame of the forest standing tall in all its glory,

Look and see; feel it now,

For it will stay anew for but a month now;

It’s been toiling and working hard for this,

All year round!

The robins and barbets have embraced its beauty,

Flitting from branch to branch in all gaiety,

Inviting the squirrels to dance and play,

For its bright scarlet flowers have bloomed today!!!

Butterflies galore; sucking sweet nectar,

It’s sweet satiety time for them to sing and flutter,

Going from bract to bract,

Enjoying every moment,

Totally lost in gay abandon,

In its canopy of red,

Flaunting and glowing,

With its heart-a-glowing,

And love enduring.

Soon the rains will drown the city,

The sound of sweet chirping will be lost again;

It will be all dark and gloomy,

With great down-pouring,

All that can be heard is the thunderous booming,

Its branches will play with the howling winds,

And the flowers will be strewn on the mud all soggy and loose.

Next year again it will stand and blossom,

It will give away its beauty and shine,

For oft times when I’d stand aloof,

Sweet scarlet bouquet of flowers it would assume,

And give me hope and joy in these dire times,

Mother Nature’s indeed a healer,

Yet many have forgotten,

Wondrous miracles inside her!!
