The Plight

The Plight

A mother, a sister, a daughter, friend or wife,

Diverse roles she perfectly plays all her life.

But instead of being treated as supreme,

Pain and agony compels her to scream.

The sound of footsteps makes her fright,

When she is out there alone at night.

The remarks and comments echo in her ears,

Acids, burns and ill-treatment is what she bears.

Trying to turn a blind eye to filthy stares,

Stepping out, she encounters nightmares.

Struggling hard to save herself, in vain,

She tries and tries, yet suffers with pain.

In a pool of blood for hours she lies,

Grabs no attention as the time flies.

Either succumbs to her suffering,

Or waits years for a court hearing.

Waiting to be heard, waiting to be seen,

Deeply hurt when the accused comes out clean.

"She was at fault" "Why did she go alone?"

These societal talks make her moan.

'Equality and empowerment' hide amidst the nation,

Even before being enforced, went for cremation.

For how long does she have to stay within a fence,

Shouldn't men be taught gentleman qualities and sense.

Throughout her life, she whole heartedly serves,

Will she ever get what she really deserves?
