Dancing Passions

He was always mocked for his dance moves. Being a part of a small town he was expected to dance as other boys did.

"Hey! you dance like a girl."

"Your moves are very feminine."

"Why don't you wear a skirt and bangles."

Everywhere he was ridiculed and judged. Even at home, he got scolded badly whenever he danced.

In school, he never got a chance to perform on stage. His passion got confined to his bedroom and terrace where he would practice his dance steps. In college too he was a victim. Termed as 'gay' or 'transgender', comments were part and parcel of his life. But there was something within that he remained rooted. He never left his passion and zeal for dance.

It was the time when the whole nation was under lockdown and he too was stuck in his hostel. All the boys would play cricket, video games, and fly kites on the terrace but he always preferred to remain in his room.

It was in the morning while practicing when he found himself unable to do a step. Even after many trials, he failed to understand his fault. So he kept his mobile and recorded his move. He found himself so attractive while dancing. With this struck an idea and he rushed to his room. He fixed a rod on the floor which was used to hang clothes. He replaced the bulb with a red light and shot his video on a song. Once completed he did the necessary editing and posted on a new account he created on Instagram.

He waited for the likes and comments but unfortunately got very few. He posted few more videos but got successful with the one where he danced in full light and clear background with a painted face. His profile was flooded with comments and likes.

He became an Instagram sensation with the name 'Pole Dancer'.In an interview conducted after a year of his online dancing journey, he said,

"Dance is a form to express yourself, your feelings with various forms. It is not gendered biased. It cannot be stereotyped. Pole dancing is not a form that is restricted to females dancing at bars or clubs. I always loved the pole as it helped me perform my moves. It was this society that always limited me, put boundaries around my passion. But I chose to fulfill my passion and see today I teach many boys and girls pole dancing sitting in my room only. Even if you find it difficult, even if the path is not smooth keep on moving. So you have to slow down but keep walking. Your passion, your dream will always find a way for you."
