Five Faces - Part One

First case

It was a Saturday morning. The city of London was lively with people roaming around and enjoying their weekend. Officer Amit was as usual busy with his cases in his cabin which was in Wembley Police Station. Amit was an Indian by birth but was brought up in London and lived there since he was eight. He had become a police officer and joined London Police. He is a brilliant, courageous and handsome young man. There hasn't been a single case that he has not been able to solve till now in his career. He is known for his chivalry, intelligence and good looks. No doubt he is popular among women too and had many affairs. He is a practical man who does not believe in god, emotions or heart. He only understands law and rules.

At 11:00 a.m he got a call at his police station. A famous Indian businessman in his area has been robbed. He went there with his officers. As a senior officer, he never solved robbery cases but this was a case of a famous person so they requested him to come. He reached the house. The house was a big white bungalow. As he entered the gates he saw gardens on both sides of the pathway. He entered the main door and came to the living room. The house looked lavish and belonged to Mr Sarfaraz Khan. Mr Sarfaraz was a 38-year-old businessman who owned many restaurants in London. Amit sat with Mr Sarfaraz who was sitting on a big white couch. He asked Mr Sarfaraz to explain what had happened.

Mr Sarfaraz said that this morning when he went to put some money in his locker he saw all the gold and some money was missing from his locker. They searched the entire house but they could not find it. Sarfaraz coughed a lot while speaking. His wife gave him a glass of water. She said " I know who the thief is. Shabana is the thief. She has stolen all the money. Please catch her as soon as possible."

"No, that's not possible. Please don't doubt that noble lady. She has got nothing to do with the robbery. This is just a coincidence." Sarfaraz said while still coughing.

"Just a minute. May I ask who is Shabana ?" Amit asked.

"She was our maid. She said today that her aunt is sick and she wants to visit her. And so we allowed her to go. She left today morning at eight. We figured out about the robbery at 10:00 a.m. We tried calling her but her phone is also unreachable since morning. She has robbed our money and some documents and ran away." Sarfaraz's wife Shehnaaz said.

"Oh! Give me her phone number. My team will track it." Amit said.

"Believe me, sir, Shabana can not do this. She was here for 2 years. Once or twice she also returned the gold earrings or ring that my wife lost while cooking or gardening. We trust her a lot. And also why would she take my documents. This is definitely one of my business rivals." Sarfaraz said.

"No one has entered the house since tomorrow night. And tomorrow only I had opened the locker. Everything was there at night." Shehnaaz said.

"Don't worry sir and ma'am we will figure this out. If Shabana is innocent nothing will happen to her. We will find the real culprit."

Amit said.

He asked for Shabana's number and photograph. Shehnaaz gave him her number. And told him that she is not sure if they have her photograph or not so she will search on her phone. Amit told her not to worry he will call his sketch artist. Amit called his sketch artist and sent his other officer to track and find Shabana. After one hour Shabana's sketch was ready. Amit got a call from his office. He told him that Shabana's last location was near Sarfaraz's house. So, he went to that exact location and searched the house there. Nothing was found. But then he noticed a dustbin outside the house. And when he emptied it and searched thoroughly he found the SIM Card. Amit grew more suspicious. Either Shabana was the thief or something had happened to her.

Amit gave Shabana's sketch to his office and told him to find something about Shabana in the police database. Amit asked, "Which documents have been stolen ?"

"My birth certificate, business certificates and all my degrees. Only my wife, as well as my son's documents and my life insurance documents, were left in the locker". Sarfaraz said. He coughed even more.

"Are you alright sir ?" Amit asked.

"Yeah, nothing to worry about. It is just because he smokes and drinks a lot. He gets a sore throat once or twice a month." Shehnaaz said.

"Okay. Please take medicine, sir. So, coming back to the case. This is very strange. Why would someone take all the documents of a man ?" Amit said.

Just when Amit was about to stand up, Sarfaraz fell to the ground. Amit went near him. He was facing some problems with breathing. Amit lifted him with the help of his officer and took him to his car. Shehnaaz was screaming and crying. Amit took the car towards the nearest hospital. But just in two minutes, Sarfaraz stopped breathing. Amit checked him and found that he was dead. Shehnaaz was crying and screaming at the top of her voice.

This wasn't just a case of a robbery anymore. It was a murder. Amit told Shehnaaz he will have to take Sarfaraz's body for post-mortem. Shehnaaz was not in her senses anymore. Amit told two of his officers to take Sarfaraz's body for post-mortem and two other officers to drop Shehnaaz at her home safely.

Amy, Amit's co-officer told Amit " That girl Shabana is not just a thief but also a murderer. We have to catch her as soon as possible."

"But what if she isn't the murderer. Why would someone steal documents? And even if they do, why leave insurance documents if their purpose is to steal everything ?" Amit asked.

"Oh yeah. What do you think ?" Amy said.

"Either this Shabana is the thief as well as a murderer and didn't want to harm anyone else and was here for the sole purpose of some sort of revenge from Sarfaraz or the other possibility is that the real culprit is someone else and Shabana is being framed. Maybe she is also in some kind of danger ?" Amit said.

"Maybe this was done by someone who gets the money of life insurance and wanted to get rid of Sarfaraz and framed Shabana so that no one would doubt that person. Also, Sarfaraz showed so much trust in Shabana." Amit said.

"Who do you think this person could be ?" Amy asked.

"It could be anyone. It could be Shehnaaz, or her son or anyone else or it can also be Shabana. We will have to figure it out. Get ready! This case is going to be interesting. And I assure you I will find out the real culprit soon. I solve such cases on a daily basis." Amit said confidently.

 Little did he know that this case is going to be the toughest one for him and would change his life in a way he could never imagine.
