"Take the junk out of my sight", Shahana was screaming again. Each Sunday morning such as this was heavily spiced for all the neighbours by Shahana's fit. Fit of rage if I may say so, spiced with humor every bit.

"Now, now, darling; don't start again", the husband begged. "When it was new, you loved it. We'll call the carpenter tomorrow, he'll do his bit. He'll fix the arm and give your rocking chair a fresh coat of varnish. When it was new, it was the centre of attraction at all your social events. Now come on darling, quit being mean. It has given you pride and prestige. You've basked in the glory of owning it."

"You've spend many-a-day idly on it relaxing, reading a book and so much of my income went behind that piece which you so politely refer to as, "the junk". "You've used it and misused it, both. It has lived its life so be kind for once". "No, no, no; I'll have none of it. Just sell it. Repair it and sell it. Give it for free, if nobody is buying it but just get it out of my house".

Shahana was at it again, again after that rocking chair. It was lying some months now in the backyard, taking up precious space.

Tuesday morning the "thak, thak" informed all, the carpenter's there. Good, Shahana will be rid of that despicable piece of furniture now. No more screams every Sunday morning.

The carpenter's folly or say Shahana's luck; while mending it, the arm of the chair broke in two. Shahana was ecstatic. "Take it away", she said jubilantly. "I'll give this to you for free".

The carpenter very joyously took away that expensive, useful piece of furniture that had given so much pride to its owner, free of cost.

My phone was ringing. Kaku had called. Kakima's eldest sibling had passed away. She was a spinster. She was fifty three.
