THE FESTIVAL OF LIGHT

THE FESTIVAL OF LIGHT

Diwali festival is the most joyous time for me to indulge in decorating house with rangoli, flower arrangement, Diya selections and it was my first great experience this year.

Next morning on Diwali festival we decorated our homes with colourful rangolis, torans and many electric lights.

The celebration begins with Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi puja. After we finished worshipping, my mom prepared special sweets like Gulab Jamun, Shankarpali, Chakkali, etc and she made delicious dishes and desserts to enjoy Diwali time.

My parents gave me a surprise gift and told me to unwrapped the box, I opened it out of curiosity and saw a wrist watch and a new dress. I was very much excited to wear it.

In the evening, we visited our neighbours and relatives and exchanged platters of sweets, dry fruits, and other foods. The night sky glitters and rumbles from firecrackers and our house and neighbours houses were lit up with oil lamps and colorful electric lights.

On Bhaiya Dhooj I did Arati to my cousin brothers and they blessed me and gave gifts after the special rituals and sweets.

I had a doubt that why do people lit lamps only on Diwali and not other festival so my mom cleared my doubt saying that in North India celebrate Diwali when Lord Rama returned from Ayodhya after his 14 years of exile with his wife and in South India, Diwali is celebrated the Victory of Goddess Durga over the demon Nakasura.

Hearing this story I thought there is wonder in all the multicultural beliefs, spiritual practices, and the way of life.
