When my friend Tara was in 2nd Grade, she would say whatever came to her mind. Once, on the last day of school before Diwali break, she gifted our class teacher Mrs. Mehak a box of Soan Papdi, while gifting her, she told her, that her mumma did not want the box of Soan Papdi and told her to gift it to you as according to her you won’t refuse the offer.

After a few days, Mrs. Mehak gifted it to her parents, but her parents said ‘Eww, even though she is our daughter, she doesn’t care about us and gives us the same thing each year. We regret buying her everything in the past. They gifted it to one of their mutual friends, he said ‘what is this, something thingy, they promised to get me a box of dry fruits, I am confronting them and passing this on to someone else’. The mutual friend gave it to his niece, one of Tara’s friends. She said, ‘Mumma, Uncle always gives us a box of Soan Papdi, I told you he is a miser and gives us whatever he doesn’t want. I will give it to someone at my party next week’.

Next week, Tara and her family were invited to a mutual friend’s niece’s party, as her family was about to leave, the niece’s mum, gifted Tara a box. At first, Tara thought it was a toy when she reached home, she unwrapped it with her mumma, and to her surprise, it was a box of Soan Papdi which had a nail paint mark on the side which her mumma accidentally put while doing her nails and talking on the phone with her best friend. Tara told her mumma, ‘see, we got the same box of Soan Papdi that we had gifted to Mrs. Mehak for Diwali, at least it is not expired, and is still edible’.
