The Drink For Life, Or Not?

The rich man swirls the wine in his glass,

He smells it, tastes it, and then nods his head.

He looks around the restaurant,

The neatly woven tapestry,

The twinkling lights above, not vibrant not dull,

The soft-spoken crowd,

The fine silk worn by his date,

A sigh of approval passes his lips.

The waiter pours a glassful for the gentleman and the lady,

The couple clink their glasses and take a sip.

And the conversation continues.

The poor man in his torn vest and pants, looks at the bottle in his hand,

He gazes far away and sighs,

He remembers that he needs the money for his son,

He remembers that his family is hungry,

He remembers that there is leak in his roof,

He remembers about the soon-to-come monsoon,

Closing his eyes, he gulps down the alcohol.

He now, takes a huge deep breath and plunges into the drain.

Thus, begins his day
