Mirage Or Marriage

Marriages are made in Heaven 

And celebrated here, on Earth ,

We the earthlings making a tryst with destiny 

Seeking blessings and best wishes for the matrimony 

Bound in a holy union by the marriage vows 

To stay committed, ever to the spouse 

For better or for worse, in sickness or health and richness or poverty 

Taking vows without any commitment or credibility 

Is marriage a bane to the couple or a boon that is so supple?

Has the marriage lost its charm? 

Will they withstand times norms?

Making marriage work is a Herculean task to the ignorant and arrogant 

While it is a simple social act to the noble and cognizant 

Age old traditions made the marriage a convenience

While the modern commissions rendered marriage to connivance 

Then or now, was woman ever poignant?

Her will or wish was never warranted?

Till she became educated and aware of her surroundings 

She made choices of picking and choosing her own likings' 

In changing times marriage is a bizarre experience

With pre-shoots and filmy style settings exuberance 

The who's who of the place walking the red carpet escorted

Loads of money expended, and tons of food wasted 

Foodservice turned more a gourmet event showcasing 

Dance drama and Hungama' all surfacing 

Lack of eagerness and interest in guests attending 

A wry smile or a dry look is thrown at the less blessed beings ...

Painted faces, prickly attitudes, poking fun, and sarcastic stance 

A plastic appearance, a rubbery reminiscence, wooden handshake, and make-believe persistence 

The ritual has no respect for the marriage vows understood 

The ceremony elaborate but relevance neglected 

Whom are we fooling or why are we fussing?

What makes marriages work or not working?

Is an issue to ponder over...

Living up to the expectations of marriage is no easy to grasp 

The hand in hand journey is indeed a tough clasp.

How Divine and dutybound is one to take the vows in zest?
