My Familiars
My Familiars
I came here not knowing
What to expect
Everybody was new and thus, suspect
But the fates were on my side
Along with me came two on the same tide
Of like minds
And very kind
And we’re now going along on this prodigious ride
To our shared destiny
One, a diamond of the first water
The other, bold and strong and nothing like the former
And me, an aspiring author
Now my home away from home
They help me work with these towering tomes
And won’t ever let me slip back to being a gnome
Gathering dust out of sight
We sing together
We dance together
And we laugh together
At all our oddities
They don’t know my past
Won’t judge me this fast
I don’t have to worry about expectations
As they need no demonstrations
Me being me is all the remuneration
They need
For the first time in a long time
I’m free to be free
I’m free to be me
And I’m free to work towards my destiny
