A Goddess

A Goddess

She walked the earth with an ethereal glow,

She wore the attire they bestowed.

She sang a song so sweet, Kings bowed,

She walked with small feet carrying a load.

What it was no one knows.

She was stopped then on here to somewhere,

Where vultures eyed her as a prey.

They commented and said a woman this fine,

Was worth a dinner for night at nine.

Startled she stepped back a foot,

She ran, she ran but no one looked.

She then decided to follow the rules,

Be back by 7 said the women shrewd.

The Goddess felt lost and somewhat caged,

She tried to explain but then she raged.

How dare they treat her like this?

Her honour, her values were burnt to crisp!

But the vultures kept coming at her,

First inviting, bribing then torturing her.

They kept changing every time they came,

The Goddess yelled and cried feeling ashamed,

For the people ignored and looked away,

As the Goddess suffered in dismay.

She thought of times when she was a face,

On a plastic board or a temple place.

Where people came and worshipped her,

For not just her beauty but her brain and words.

But now she sat on a broken chair glancing at mirror, glaring, aware.

For no this won't stop no matter how hard she tried,

For she was no Goddess but a mortal woman this time.
