Daughter’s Daddy

They say a special bond is formed

When daddy’s baby girl is born

When first time her daddy picks her

Chubby fingers drape around his little finger

This bond grows every breath she takes

His love is shown in the actions he takes

When she starts running around on her feet tiny

He covers all sharp edges just so she could run freely

He follows behind on his two-wheeler alone

When she takes her maiden bus ride to her school alone

And when she takes her first flight abroad on her own

He tracks her flight till she reaches her destination on her own 

He worries day and night when she starts working

Cooks her favourite dishes when she is late returning

Waits at the nearby bus station each time she returns after sunset

Only when he sees her getting off the bus his mind is finally at rest

For him his daughter always stays his best confidant and love token

He is the proudest father when his daughter gets a promotion

Even when his baby girl turns into a grown-up woman

His eyes still see that little baby girl in his arms once cradled

When she is ready, he gives her hand away with a smile

But next day comes down with fever as he misses her a mile

He may hold his daughter’s hand just for a short time

But she stays in her daddy’s heart for a lifetime
