The Soldier
The Soldier
A man to the infant sings the lullaby,
There lived a young lady, he says with a sigh;
Six feet tall and very kind,
Physically fit with a sharp mind;
She grew up with dreams of her own,
Then came the time to reap what she had sown;
She stood so tall on country's side,
Undoubtedly, she was this land's pride;
Fate drove her a life partner handsome,
By being supportive, he let her blossom;
Though they lived away from each other,
Long distance never used to bother;
Whenever they met, there were only smiles,
To meet her, he used to drive miles;
Days and years slipped as she protected her nation,
She lived for the country without any vacation;
She was about to become a mother now,
But she had to live away from the family anyhow;
She played each role with a lot of patience,
Nine months later, she delivered twin sons;
Amidst her maternity leave, she heard the news,
The nation was in danger and now she had to choose;
Without a second thought, she stood up,
With all her courage, the decision she took up;
No one meant to her more than the nation,
Thus she ran to save her country from the invasion;
"The nation needs me, I know you will wait,"
She whispered to her sons with fearless trait;
Soon with the same fire, she was back to the field,
Loaded with bullets while her hands held the shield;
With flawless strength, she commanded the troop,
She knew this time there was no acceptance to droop;
While she turned to look at the soldier whose bone had cracked,
A fierce bullet hit her from the back;
Yet she stood and gave a tough fight,
She always tried to make things right;
She didn't give up till her breath last,
Though from her wound, the blood flowed fast;
With bravery they fought while we stayed in house,
Even during the pandemic, they had no time to drowse;
We were ready to welcome her with warmth,
But she came home draped in a white cloth;
I had so much to tell her, I waited so long,
But all that I could do was sing her the last song;
During wars and even during festivals,
She served her nation at the abuttals;
Today, she sleeps silently in the grave,
But you could proudly say that your mother was a soldier brave!
