Why Can't I Write A Poem Today

Why Can't I Write A Poem Today

For me to write a poem

something must stir deep within

All it used to take was a song

That would make my heart give in

Been listening to quite a few now

But can’t relate to any of late

Even the sad songs that I lived with

Have become too lazy to lay the bait

My poems clutched despair, sometimes hope

Confined myself in the dark to pen a few

Inked others by soaking in rays of hope

I now want to hear one with a different hue

Bitterness readies to depart from the window

But loneliness has slithered in thru the pane

And driven all other feelings out

Pain’s the only one it wants to retain

I’m like a mast in the ocean after the storm

A lone wreck that remains afloat

While the hurtful winds have stopped

Pain’s rushed to occupy my battered boat

How I wish nobody needed me

Would be so easy to give up and be still

For the storm to swiftly devour me

Ah! But I still have duties to fulfil

Pain nags me even when I do nothing

I notice the poignant note in every tune

Can’t spot a melody that may be just around

I need a song that’ll soothe me and soon

Poems are running away from my pain

So, I’m trying to coax them back today

By singing them this song, “Pain, pain go away

Come back when nobody needs me; you may then have your day”
