The Gift

Everyone in their humongous, adventurous life has dreamt of having some sort of unique ability or a gift. Growing up in a family of exceptional people, I never had to think about it as I had an opportunity to learn from my family where each one has abilities of all sorts. My father is the ‘Jack of all trades’ quite literally, my mother has the power of healing the sick or injured, be it human or animal. Just the touch of her hand makes everything better. She attends to all kinds of people, like someone who has a problem internally in their body or wounds and scratches.

We can thank my brother for all the pets at our house because he is the one who knows how to mingle with them. He has never been great with talking to humans but his inherent powers enable him to communicate with animals. Coming to the protagonist of this story, me! I have realized that I can think on my feet in the most difficult situations and come up with a solution immediately. When someone is really hungry but doesn’t have anything, I cook up something for them with my magic. Maybe I can be an asset on an island.

Every human just feels too tired or exhausted and never wants to try putting their soul, blood, and heart into something wholly. We often take shortcuts when doing something and the consequences later conflict with our emotions. We always imagine having some sort of ability so that we don’t have to do our work. Like nowadays I hear my friends talking about how the future generation is going to be blessed because everything for them will be done by some robot or machine.

So soon enough just like any other teen, I started making use of my powers more often; I had developed a problem of being too reliant on my magic. This created a sense of tension in my family and it was justified because I had really stopped doing anything myself. All of my school projects were not the result of my creative side; I just used my gift to make the process a lot quicker. This was obviously a big problem and my parents took it seriously. My parents consulted our guide, who is an expert at all these gifts. He had several abilities and one of them was to absorb the powers of someone else.

So there was a long process and my inherent powers were kind of confiscated from me. I was told to be independent. If I improved then there would be a possibility of getting my gift back. For a week, I was able to discover the inner me which had been pushed even more inside by my gift. I found out that I could do a lot of things on my own. I could juggle, doodle and do many more things. On the last day of the week, I had self-realization. I was so brilliant just on my own and didn’t have to use my power unless I really was in a tough situation. I shared this with my parents and they were satisfied enough to give me my gift back. Let me share a piece of self-realization with you, ‘You only realize the importance of one very valuable thing, when you lose another valuable thing’. Isn’t that correct?
