Long Winter Nights
Long Winter Nights
When the last leaves blow off the maple trees
And the geese have all taken flight
The days start getting shorter
And I look forward to long winter nights.
I walk around the beautiful city
and enjoy all the colorful lights
Music plays wherever I wander
and I stand there and take in the sights
I watch all the people around me
smile more than the rest of the year
Something about the great winter
Fills the heart with more love and great cheer.
At times I go up to the mountains
and take a walk in the new fallen snow
The trees are now bowing before me
kissed by the snowflakes and winds as they blow.
I sit on a rock on the hillside
I look down at the city below
The silence that whispers around me
Enhances the faint smell of pine trees that grow
When the sun ducks behind that big mountain
I make my way home from the hills
I make popcorn and savor hot chocolate
as the snow gathers on my windowsills
At nighttime I lay near the fireplace
hoping I will spot a few deer
and watching the snow as it's falling
as I dream of the coming new year.
