I looked down at my hands that you held tightly right after I told you they were cold;

The heat that was supposed to keep my hands warm traveled up to my cheeks.

I remember thinking, “This is it,” and a confession followed that thought,

Leading my hands to get cold again because you didn’t feel the same.

That would have been easier if you wanted me as much as I need you,

But you didn’t and suggested that we should just stay friends.

I don’t know why that didn’t make me feel bad, maybe because you still wanted me by your side.

It didn’t matter as a friend or a lover, so I accepted the version you expected of me.

I know love and I see it in your eyes, not for me but for someone else and that’s fine.

What matters is you’re happy which is all I want.

My friends tell me it’s a waste of my time when I spend it on you,

Either with you or thinking about you.

I ignore them because each second I spend on you is worth it,

They don’t know that nothing in this world makes me feel alive than my love for you.

Some people just aren’t meant to be together, even though this thought kills me from the inside,

My love for you brings me back to life.

I’ll continue to love you so that I continue to feel alive, 

I’ll hide it from you, my friends, and anyone else this thing bothers, 

Because all I want is for you to be happy.

That's all I want.
