The Mirror

The Mirror

The mirror lies

He told himself

For his reflection looked so perfect

On the mirror that was a gift

A few moons ago when he saw

His mother decorating herself

With jasmine flowers

That his father had bought

After a long long day

Whose arms had bruises from

Mining and drilling.

Feet under

In the dungeon of darkness

Where he saw the dead

But never complained

He saw the disparity

The atrocities of walking

Amidst those who were above

They tried to bury him with their words

But he kept smiling

Loving life with glee

He told his son to be one

Who shares with others

And cries with none

But one day he could not breathe

The obnoxious toxins below

His son wept over the loss

Never saw himself in the mirror

For years

Until later

When he built himself an abode

Clad with fortune

But the mirror only showed him, himself

But, not his father.
