THE SILVER PINE CONE TREE

Once high atop the blue clouds lived little angelic cherubs, who wished very much to know what the earthly kingdom was like. As they floated in the air and looked far from atop, they could see the great mountains, the winding valleys, the serene riverbeds and the beautiful trees. What did catch their eye was the silvery Christmas tree. So they flew with their dainty wings, down to earth and started to dance around the silver noble tree.

Now, the heavenly father up above wished very much to be in the company of his cherubs and to see them in the mists. So, the tree as if to say it grew higher and higher, till it finally reached atop the skies.

When the earthly children came to play around it, they saw the halos around the magic tree, though they could not see the angelic winged cherubs. But the heavenly cherubs as they floated on account of having no gravity could see them very well.

The children followed the halos of the cherubs and started to climb higher and higher up the tree till they reached the colossal clouds. Soon they saw the celestial palace, it too floated in the air up above the cushiony clouds. But when the earthly children tried to reach it, the more they tried, the castle grew further away from them and by now floated high above them. They had so many earthly cares and wishes that they found themselves too heavy to enter the portcullis of the castle.

The halos of the cherubic angels started to fall to the ground one by one and for they so loved the earth and the earthly children therein, their luminous halos turned into heavy acorn cone ones. The earthly children who were not allowed to enter the portcullis of the castle now climbed down as quickly as their legs could tarry to see the fallen angels.

Their golden halos were now golden brown scales of the pine cones. Try as try as hard as they could, they couldn’t remove them. They had fallen in love with their earthly ties, so even their father in heaven could not save them. And thus the angelic cherubs to this day grew to be pine cones on the silver Christmas tree.
