Was Independence in vain?

How are we here today?

Who is the cause?

It was through a well-earned freedom,

But not without pain and loss.

We were suppressed by some people,

At our knees we were made to fall.

But some people had the courage,

To stand up bold and tall.

And not through blood or gore,

Not through war and strife.

It was a peaceful form of freedom,

Though many a person lost their life.

 

And they gave us freedom,

Gave us pure water and blue skies.

But I still hear them,

The people and their woeful cries.

So, let’s not waste their efforts,

Let it not go in vain.

Because they gave their lives for us,

They gave us sunlight and rain.
